Care to Change is honored that you have chosen us to walk alongside you in your journey toward rediscovery, purpose, and healing. We consider this such a brave step forward and we want to honor you throughout the entire process with clarity.
The first session is unlike those that follow and may feel a bit more like a question and answer, goal setting, and reviewing logistics type of appointment. Our purpose is for the counselor to develop the most whole and accurate picture of you, your journey, and your goals.
Weâll review confidentiality and process, talk about your family history, your personal history related to what brought you to us, your physical health and relationships, and your support system so we can better tailor your care to your unique situation.
We encourage you to ask questions, too. You are welcome to ask all about our experience, style, and next recommended steps. You can ask why we do what we do, and why we chose Care to Change. At the end of the first session, youâll receive a âBetween Sessionsâ handout â that gives you an overview of what was discussed, resources and/or practical recommendations for you and next steps to take.
Before your first session, weâll ask you to complete some forms that will help us better understand you and your needs and spell out how Care to Change works. Weâll also ask you to review an informed consent document that provides information the law expects us to share with you, so there wonât be any surprises. (If youâre bringing your child in for counseling, we may ask you to come alone to the first session so you can feel comfortable sharing sensitive and confidential information with the counselor.)
Typically, the first session will last between 50 and 60 minutes. Subsequent sessions will probably be shorter than that, unless you plan a double session or intensive. To learn more about what you can expect from Care to Change, you can read our FAQs on our website.
