About this event

Youth Mental Health Initiatives: Serving the Next Generation – 70% of youth in churches report feeling overwhelmed by anxiety and depression, highlighting a pressing need for faith communities to address mental health and provide supportive environments for the next generation. Join us as we focus on the unique mental health challenges faced by young people today. We will discuss the importance of understanding anxiety, depression, self-harm, suicidal ideation, trauma and social media. We will also cover trauma-informed practices, how to recognize when help is needed, and how to create a supportive environment for healing and recovery.

Mac Zambrano

Many adults do their best to avoid interacting with teenagers, but Mac enjoys the energy and potential young people bring to life. Having served as a youth pastor for more than a decade (currently at Brownsburg’s Hope Community Church), he’s well aware of the many transitions people experience during their teen years, and he recognizes the importance of creating safe spaces where they can talk, ask questions, seek, and grow as they navigate life at a confusing time.

Mac received his undergraduate degree in Biblical Studies from Moody Bible Institute. The longer he served in youth ministry, the more he recognized the need for counseling in the church and knew God was calling him to serve people who were hurting. He earned a master’s in Christian Counseling from Gateway Seminary and chose Care to Change because our team is aligned with his own calling to help individuals and families maximize their God-given potential.

In addition to working with teens, Mac also enjoys helping couples prepare for marriage, as well as being there when they need to strengthen their relationships and transform conflict into positive actions and deeper bonds. When he isn’t helping young people and couples find more joy in their lives, you’ll find him enjoying the company of wife Cassie and daughter Izzie. A musician and sports fan, he’s also an avid disc golfer who serves on the county’s leadership team.

Jared Jones

Volunteering as a crisis intervention specialist during college fueled a passion in Jared for counseling adolescents and young adults through suicidal ideation and other crises.

Jared earned his undergraduate degree in brain and behavioral sciences at Purdue University and went on to obtain a master’s in mental health counseling from the University of Indianapolis. Jared worked with college students at a university student counseling center until he joined our team.

He combines the use of cognitive and behavioral strategies and a deep faith in God’s healing power to help empower young people who struggle with anxiety, mood disorders, suicidal ideations and addictions. Jared is trained in EMDR, and he also enjoys opportunities to share God’s healing by serving the community and educating others about mental health.
